Capacity building is a core objective of the Asian Political and International Studies Association (APISA). It seeks to improve the quality of academia in Asia. In implementing this objective, APISA convenes a Professional Capacity Building Workshop each year. Special emphasis is placed on the enhancement of teaching, research and administrative skills.


Workshop Program


The duration of this workshop is one week. The workshop would be conducted as a Roundtable which would also involve leading experts as resource persons. Among the topics covered are:

  • Faculty Administration
  • Department Administration
  • Counseling
  • Financial Management
  • Research University

Invitation to Apply

 

APISA invites applications for participation as APISA Fellow in the Professional Capacity Building Workshop. The invitation is restricted to lecturers and researchers resident in Asia. Preference will be given to candidates who are mid-level or senior academic managers at either the faculty of department level, especially those working in regional or provincial universities. Due consideration will also be given to the issue of gender. In the selection process, APISA members will be accorded priority although anyone qualified can apply.

 

 

Requirements

 

Applicants must have as a minimum a Masters degree from a recognized university although a PhD is preferable. Applicants must demonstrate that they are involved in university administration and are proficient in the English language. Applicants are also required to submit a two-page (double-spaced) essay which explains how they as individuals as well as their institutions would benefit from participating in this workshop.

 

 

Terms and Conditions

 

The following terms and conditions apply to successful candidates:

 

  • An institutional undertaking by way of a letter that the participant will complete the workshop program
  • Evidence of medical/travel insurance coverage
  • Provision by APISA of economy class airfare, hotel accommodation and meals
  • Provision by APISA of a stipend to cover incidental expenses

 

 

Submission of Application

 

All applications must be accompanied with a curriculum vitae inclusive of a list of publications, administrative experience, courses taught and current research interests, and names of two academic referees. All applications must be submitted via email to the program director.
